Profile Richard Cockerill Born 16 Dec 70 in Rugby. Physique: 5'10", 17st 0lb. Rep Hons: England (27), Barbarians. Previous Clubs: Newbold-upon-Avon, Coventry, Montferrand. Tigers Debut: 1 Sep 92 at Sheffield. Tigers Record: 210+46apps, 14t-70pts. Born in Rugby, Richard was educated at Harris Church of England School and played rugby for Warwickshire Schools. Having represented England Under 21s and England A, Richard went on to make his Test debut on the1997 England tour to Argentina. He played in both the 1998 and 1999 Five Nations and Autumn Internationals as well as touring to the Tri-Nations countries in the summer of 1998. He also played four games in the 1999 World Cup, making his last international appearance in the competition. After 10 seasons with Leicester, during which time he won 5 league titles including four in a row, 2 English Cup winner's medals and played in two Heineken Cup winning squads, Richard left the club to join French outfit Montferrand. As well as playing for The Vulcans in the French domestic championship and the Sud Radio Challenge Cup, Richard participated in their 2002/3 Heineken Cup campaign, scoring a try in the pool match against Swansea, and has made 4 appearances so far in this season's Parker Pen Cup, where Montferrand face NEC Harlequins in the final. Richard became a non-capped Barbarian when he toured Zimbabwe with them in 1994, whilst his most recent appearance for the famous invitation club was as captain when he returned to Welford Road to play in Neil Back's Testimonial match last season. In his last season with Tigers Richard took up a part-time position as assistant coach at his home-town club, Rugby Lions. His contributions both on and of the field at Leicester were recognised when he, along with front row colleagues Graham Rowntree and Darren Garforth, was awarded a joint testimonial season and were also voted by Tigers' members to receive their Outstanding Service Award.
