Rugby: Flapper signs for Newbold

Newbold have unveiled their new signing 6 foot 8 ins Neil Underhill, better known in Rugby circles as Flapper. The former Lions, Birmingham/Solihull and Nottingham player has decided that National Rugby has lost its appeal to him.

All the travelling, late nights and the loss of the social aspects playing at that level has prompted him to return to junior rugby.

Flapper said: "I have been playing National Rugby since I was 17, I want to enjoy playing on the field as well as off it. Newbold are a cracking club with loads of potential. It is a real family-minded club that I have always enjoyed associating with. Two of my best mates are already playing and coaching there, so it only seems logical to join them.

"I have seen Trevor Revan playing at Newbold and he really enjoys playing and socialising. With Leemo (Neal Leeming] doing the coaching I know I can really fit in at the club."

Newbold have started their Pre season training, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm. Any players wishing to be part of Newbold's coming campaign will be made very welcome, new and old alike, whether you're after serious or just social rugby.

The season for Newbold starts with a trial game against Old Coventrians on August 14 at home, Barkers Butts away on the August 21 and the first game proper against Walsall in the Powergen Cup August 28, reward for being Warwickshire Cup finalists.

Finally Newbold will be running an Under 17 side on Sunday mornings, so if you are an eligble age to play or can assist in anyway then contact Paul Bale on (01788) 569750 (day) or (01788) 560014 (evening).
