New Season Newbold-on-Avon R.F.C. begin their season on Saturday away to Walsall in the prestigious Powergen Cup a reward for being finalists in last seasons Warwickshire Cup. Walsall plays in a league higher than Newbold so as underdogs we can expect a tough game. All support we can muster to travel to Walsall will be needed for the 3.00 pm kick off. Newbold's pre-season training under the leadership of club coach Neil Leeming and new captain Paul Bale has gone reasonably well. New signing Neil Underhill has looked keen and sharp after stepping down from National side Nottingham and is looking forward to the season. Trials against Old Coventrians last week and Barkers Butts on Saturday gone, have given the coaching team the opportunity to look at all players competing for a first team place. The first league game of the season is against Nuneaton Old Eds away on the 4 September. A fixture Newbold won at the end of last season. We also welcome Old Laurentians back into Midlands West 2 after a difficult time in the league higher. Two games I am sure both sides will relish. |
