Happy New Year to you all from the Newbold Youth Section. The club now have a healthy and stable youth set-up, with boys and girls teams playing regular fixtures. The U14 boys have won more than they have lost in a strong fixture list, and they fear no-one. We have a small pack that scrummages brilliantly, and the backs are coming together nicely now. We have five District players, and two of whom - Andy Horne and Rob Green – have gone on to make the Warwickshire grade. The U13’s are looking forward to their first game later this month, but we still need some more players for the squad. The Girls section is flourishing under the leadership of club stalwart and physio, Rich Welsby, and the number of girls playing rugby at Newbold continues to grow. The under 17's have had a strange start to the season as most of their games have had to be rearranged due to county trials. 10 out of a squad of 22 made it in to the Warwickshire side, with 7 girls playing in a county tournament. Last Sunday the U17’s played highly rated Worcester Ladies, and put up a creditable performance. The Worcester coaches – who are also the Regional coaches - gave great praise to our girls for the way they played, so this was a real pat on the back. Five girls have been asked to attend regional trials later this year - Hanna Breken 13, George Murray 7, Amiee Morris 1, Natalie Johnson 10, and Ofure Uqiaqbe 8. Well done and good luck in the trials to those girls. The under 14's girls are starting to come along with the help of the older girls, but we need more players…. so if you know anyone, please just get them along to the club for training. The U14's have a home game on 14th Jan. Four Newbold U14’s have represented the county also - Charlotte Turner, Alexa Shaw, Sydney Murray and Amy. They all played very well, with Alexa being awarded man of the match. The tag girl’s (or tag team as we seem to have gained a couple of boys) season kicks off in January, and we’re looking forward to that. As with the other groups we need more players, so please put the word around. This is non-contact and there are no age group restrictions. Thanks must go to the coaches, helpers and parents that make youth rugby at the club possible and enjoyable. Rich would particularly like to thank Glen Todd, Daz Dean, Rob Gibson, Tom Dymek, Stuart XXXX and Daniel Minton for all their help. Many thanks also to players-come-sponsors Stuart Taylor (Hako), John Wallace (Valetree Engineering), and Rose and Sargent Estate Agents for their generosity and support.
