AEI 17 – Newbold 8 (Match Abandoned)

A strong Newbold side travelled to local rivals AEI for a friendly on a very blustery Saturday afternoon. The match started well with Newbold enjoying 90% of the possession, but a solitary incursion into the Newbold half presented a try for the home side. The story was similar in the second half with Newbold battling in the forwards and struggling in defence, AEI added a second and third breakaway try to Newbold’s one from a well worked scrum and back line move.

Unfortunately, Newbold never really made their numerous attempts on the try line pay and trailed 17-8 after 65 minutes when the match was abandoned due to a serious injury to an AEI player which required an ambulance.

A very disappointing display from a very good 2nd team side on paper. Linking the forwards and backs must be a priority for this Sundays Cup tie at home to Dunlop in the Warwickshire Cup, meet 12.45.
