Old Leamingtonians II 21 - Newbold 2XV 17
The 2's travelled to Leamington in high spirits expecting a hard game but with a team that was more than capable of progressing to the semi-finals even though they had lost a few players to the first team the week before. Unfortunately further losses on the day dented the confidence and the strength of the side.
Within a few minutes the home side applied pressure and powered through the Boldy defence to score under the posts, 7-0. Some good counter pressure from the forwards ended in disappointment with a disallowed try, but shortly afterwards M. Bullock shot over the line for a try, 7-7. P. Bale made it 7-12 shortly before half time with some good running through and around several ONs defenders.
Immediately after HT S. Houghton powered over the line after some more good pressure in the 22 to make it 7-17. The future looked bright through the heavy rain and strong winds, but Leamingtonians found a second wind. Newbold absorbed 15mins of pressure before allowing the home side over for another converted try, 14-17. Newbold had some work to do, but with a few players carrying injuries from a Saturday game and no substitutes on the bench, the home side applied the pressure scoring in the final few seconds, FT 21-17.
A very disappointing end to the weekend, all players on the pitch performed admirably and can hold their heads up high, with a full squad the scoreline would have been very different.
