BEDWORTH III       22        V         NEWBOLD VETS     46

This was newly promoted Bold Vets first outing this season in Warwickshire league 3. Previous fixtures at their Coventry rivals have always been close fought and this match proved to be just as tough, especially in the forwards, where the visitors faced a much larger pack.

The key to this impressive victory came from the home side backs who taught their opposite numbers a harsh lesson in the first half racking up a 25 points to nil advantage at the break. A lapse in concentration by the Bold for the first quarter of the second period saw a spirited fightback from the home side who scored 3 tries in quick succession to close the gap to just eight points.

The visitors dug deep, settled back into their rhythm and produced a further 3 fine tries of their own to effectively close out the game before a last gasp consolation from the home side who never gave up throughout.

James Brainwood picked up where he left off as last seasons top try scorer with a brace of tries. Damien Carroll also scored 2 with Lloyd Bale and Spot McGill adding singles. Wayne Davies had an almost perfect kicking day converting 5 and adding 2 penalties.

This was a great start for Bold Vets who will be looking forward to their next league game 26th September at home to Shipston.
