COVENTRIANS II   21        V         NEWBOLD VETS     29

After escaping with a narrow home win in Warwickshire League 3 against tough opposition from Harbury last Saturday, Bold Vets travelled to Coventry hoping for an easier ride this week.

However, their expectations were far from realised after another very stern test against a strong Coventrians outfit who contested fiercely throughout this entertaining match.

With the strong wind at their backs during the first period the visitors were made to work extremely hard for a half time lead of 7 points -    12  - 19. The second half proved to be just as tough with Bold Vets having to pull out all of the stops to maintain their tenuous lead. Despite the advantage of the gale and the visitors down to 14 men for ten minutes after a sin binning offence in the final quarter, the home side could not break down Bold’s stubborn resistance. The Parkfield Old Boys had to use all of their experience and determination in the final period to ensure another close hard fought victory.

Bold tries were scored by Vinny, Wayne, Damo, Stick and Platty with Wayne adding 2 conversions to complete the scoring. Hard work and determination were the key to this week’s success with both Chopper and Andy Holloway leading the way with solid, tireless performances. Another very tough fixture awaits this week when Bold renew old acquaintances with local rivals Leamington and they will have to call upon all of their experience to ensure they maintain their unbeaten league form.
