OLD COVENTRIANS III 0 V NEWBOLD VETS 64
Bold Vets propelled themselves to the top of Warwickshire league 3 with this demolition of local rivals with previous unbeaten leaders Manor Park losing at Leamington. The first quarter of this contest was a virtual stalemate with both sides struggling in the cold conditions. After breaking the deadlock with a couple of quick scores, Bold took a complete stranglehold of the game and totally outplayed and dominated the opposition in all aspects of play. The fantastic handling skills, tireless support play and unselfish offloading from the emphatic visitors was a joy to watch for both sets of supporters. Young winger Phil enjoyed a fantastic debut for the Vets and helped himself to a hat-trick of tries. Martin Shaw and James Brainwood each bagged braces with the ‘Bale’ family trio of Lloyd, Bish and Paul adding one each. James contributed 7 successful conversions to complete a personal haul of 24 points. Youngsters Jamie D, Danny Treherne and Matt all made valuable contributions but were overshadowed by a storming performance from Simon Daysh. In only his second ever game, he showed great strength and power at second row and will hopefully be a great future prospect after a few more matches under his belt. Bold are at home this weekend to Coventrians followed by a tricky away trip to Shipston who have recently ran into good form with some heavy league victories. The Parkfield Road old boys need to maintain focus to ensure they keep their unbeaten form in tact and stay top of the league.
