HARBURY II 6 V NEWBOLD VETS 21
Bold Vets travelled the short distance to Harbury keen to maintain their 100% record, but knowing they would be facing another extremely tough task. The sides met at Parkfield Rd earlier in the season where a last minute drop goal gave them a 1 point victory. The game kicked off and Harbury soon became camped on the Bold try line for a long period. The home side running around with plenty of enthusiasm and endeavour. This pressure failed to turn into points as resolute, uncompromising defending left the try line unpenetrated, and Newbold slowly came more into the game.
Newbold pack showing a number of changes, began to take charge, with the scrums in particular controlled well by Captain Dicko and Chopper at No 8 and scrum Half.
Tough at the mauls and rucks, it was certainly a different type of game from the vets normally expansive running one, but one which was much needed, and allowed good field position. This allowed Wayne"The axe" Davies to kick a couple of penalties as The Bold reached half time 6 points up.
It was Newbold who now dominated up front with the marauding back row of Lloydy, and Vinny complimenting the hard work of the rest, as the whole 8 worked hard to provide ball for the back line. The threat from the Harbury side pretty much snuffed out, their speedy backs running halted time and again by excellent tackling by the whole Newbold side.
This hard work was soon rewarded, the Bold pack mauling and rucking excellently and great support play resulted in Mark Portus diving over for a converted score to give some respite at 13-0. A further Davies penalty took the lead to 16 and the game relatively safe with just a solitary penalty for the home side.
The best score of the day came in the last quarter, from fantastic support play from the pack, a number of short passes, and who should pop out with the ball at the end but Lloydy who continued his seasons fine try scoring record with a typical 3 yard touchdown. Young Simon Daysh made an impressive debut, but the whole pack took the plaudits and capped another great win, and 10 out of 10 victories.
